Way of the Edgeless Blade (Revised)

Monastic Order
PDF

Season 3 of Thunderbolt Fantasy is currently airing and inspiration struck for some revisions to bring this Monastic subclass into line with others I’ve created.

Features

Edgeless Blade
Starting when you select this monastic tradition at 3rd level, you have mastered the art of infusing anything you wish with your ki. Turning even a simple stick into a deadly weapon. You can expend 1 ki as a bonus action on your turn to permeate a club, staff, or improvised weapon you are holding with your ki for up to 8 hours. When you do so choose one of the following for the weapon to count as for the duration: short sword, long sword, or rapier. While under this effect you are proficiency with the weapon and it is considered a monk weapon for you. This effect ends early if the weapon is destroyed or more than 15 feet away from you at any time.

Hands Can Harm or Heal
Beginning at 3rd level, you can expend 2 ki points to cast cure wounds without expending a spell slot. You do not require components when casting the spell in this manner.
In addition, your unarmed strikes deal your choice of bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage.

Spirit Edge
Starting at 6th level, your control over your ki has grown with your rigorous training. On your turn while you are holding a weapon under the effects of your edgeless blade feature, you can expend 2 ki to further bolster the weapon for 1 minute. When you do so the weapon is considered magical for the purposes of overcoming damage resistance and immunity, but its durability is unaffected.

Masterful Flow
At 11th level, your pricise ability to manipulate the flow of ki has opened you to even greater benefits. Whenever you expend one or more ki points, you gain one of the following benefits:

  • You gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus + your wisdom modifier.
  • Your Ki Saving Throw DC is increased by 1 for the next saving throw a creature makes against it before the end of the turn.
  • Your next monk weapon damage roll or unarmed strike damage roll before the start of your next turn is increased by 1.
  • You make your next Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution ability check before the start of your next turn with advantage.

You can gain each of these benefits only once each round.

Bladeless Slash
Starting at 17th level, you are a true master of the edgeless blade techniques, turning even the air currents into deadly weapons when infused with your ki. You can expend 2 ki as an action on your turn and make a slashing motion through the air with your hand or a weapon. When you do so a burst of air is infused with your ki and sent out in a 50 foot long and 5 foot wide line from you in a direction you choose. Each creature in the line must make a Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 3d10 plus your Wisdom modifier force damage on a failed save, or half that much on a successful one.
In addition, your attacks with weapons infused by your Edgeless Blade feature now have reach.
