Way of the Steelsoul

Monastic Order
PDF

We’ve all thought about it before, how cool it would be to play a fire, water, air, or earth bender like those in the Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra universes. And for many the numerous “fixed” Way of the Four Elements Monks allow that to some degree, but for me that didn’t satisfy the type of bender I wanted. Metalbenders. So I set to work on this monk subclass. The Steelsoul does things no other monk can, most striking among those… wearing armor. So if you like the idea of a metal-clad Monk manipulating metals, this is a subclass for you.

Martial Archetype Changelog

Martial Archetype
PDFs below

As some may have noticed I’ve recently changed the page style I use for my Homebrew content. So I’m in the process of updating all my old subclasses. Martial Archetypes were the obvious starting point so here we are. While I was in the process I decided to make some updates and revisions to the actual Homebrew themselves.

School of the Luminary

Arcane Tradition
PDF

The 3rd of the Torch-centric subclasses I have been working on. Following the Torchbearer and Fire-Swallower, comes a Wizard subclass. The School of the Luminary is all about harnessing the light and flame as both tools and weapons to guide allies, uncover the truth, and expel the darkness. Much like the previous subclasses in this series, you can expand the range of light sources you carry and benefit allies within that area. As a member of this School, you can swap damage types between fire and radiant on your spells, control your own body temperature perfectly, and shelter your allies from the harshness of heat and light. So go forth Luminary, find the darkest places and lay them bare with your blinding light!

Virtuous Guardian

Martial Archetype
PDF

This has been a long time coming, and now it’s finally here. I was given the initial prompt for this by Ted from Nerd Immersion to attempt bringing the Guardian from Guild Wars 2 into D&D 5th edition. While I felt a lot of elements of the Guardian were a bit too Paladin-esque I did like the concept of its virtues. So that’s where I went with this. As a Virtuous Guardian you choose one or more virtues to which you adhere and exemplify, and in doing so gain transcendent powers. As your virtue grows its spreads to those around you, a beacon and paragon to your allies.

The Epic Voice

Otherworldly Patron
PDF

In a world where most Warlocks are forced to make pacts with otherwordly beings with their own intentions, there was one Patron who had none. A Patron whose only desire was to see epic things, explosions, and dramatic moments. This Patron manifests itself as naught but a disembodied voice that speaks to those it has chosen. As one of those chosen few, you are called upon to be a badass. Will you heed the call of the deep voice’s monologue?

Path of the Oni

Primal Path
PDF

The Oni are an interesting species among their giant-blooded kin. Where most Giants and Ogres are quite direct Oni prefer to strike from the shadows and relish in sowing despair, fear, and disorder. Japanese Mythology is rife with characters both antagonistic and heroic who bore the blood of the Oni. Some examples are Shuten-dōji, Kintarō, Hashihime, and Ibaraki-dōji. This barbarian subclass allows you to be one of those accursed with Oni blood, and with it a fraction of their power. But such power comes with a price, a price of malicious urges, bloodlust, and destructive tendencies.

College of the Fire Swallower

Bard College
PDF

The second of the Torch-centric subclasses is here! The Fire Swallower is a Bard Subclass that brings the fire eating profession of entertainer into Dungeons and Dragons. Much like its predecessor the Torchbearer it can bring torches and the like to bear as a weapon but unlike it, this is a casting subclass so it gets a fire cantrip and a selection of new spells normally not available to Bards as it levels up. As a Fire Swallower you can consume flame attacks, grant resistance to fire damage, and boost the fire damage of yourself and your allies. Ignite your allies passion with your heated inspiring words as a member of this College.

Torchbearer

Martial Archetype
PDF

Don’t ask me why this took so long to pop into my head. Either way here we are, the Torchbearer is a Fighter who blends the use of light sources, mainly a torch into their combat style. Using the scalding heat and blinding light to battle creatures who call the darkness home. With this subclass you will defiantly explore the darkest reaches of your worlds with flame and steel at the ready.

Additionally, there’s more to come in their vein. I already have a Wizard, Rogue, and Bard subclass in mind that implements elements of this theming. So look forward to those.

The Silver Key

Sorcerous Origin
PDF
While I would normally try to post something Holiday related this time of year I’ve been pretty busy and this is a concept I had close to completion and didn’t want to put off any more. The Silver Key pulls inspirations from the works of H.P. Lovecraft as well as the character Abigail Williams from Fate/Grand Order. They are an individual who through some quirk of happenstance or contact with otherworldly beings has been granted the latent ability to open all doors. Now this isn’t quite as literal as it sounds (but it can be) since it encompasses “doors” to other worlds, dimensions, or in the case of D&D planes. A Silver Key is blessed with the power to travel the multiverse and possesses psychic medium abilities. So if you want to set off on a multidimensional escapade, this may just be the subclass for you!
